As milestones go, Arcadia Bluffs Golf Club
is celebrating something special — ten years the preeminent leader as the No. 1 public golf
course in Michigan, to say nothing of its national status. You wouldn’t expect the ownership to sit on its laurels.
“Everyday we talk about how the facility can be improved to enhance the guest experience,” said General Manager, William Shriver.
“Whether it is a major change to the physical structures on the property, the golf course itself, or the more subtle things that guests take for granted, we are constantly looking to improve and keep the facility looking brand new. It is important that we maintain the ‘wow’ factor that guests and visitors have come to expect from Arcadia Bluffs.”
Management makes no exception to this philosophy as they enter 2010. In October 2009, construction began on The Lodge at Arcadia Bluffs, 14 upscale guest rooms added to the second level of the existing Nantucket-style clubhouse. Each room will be furnished with king bed, desk and chair, flat screen wall-mounted television, stand-up shower, and private walk-out porch. The second story Lodge also provides a private meeting room and community seating area. Ten of the 14 rooms face west offering stunning panoramic views of the golf course and beautiful Lake Michigan.
In addition to the guest rooms, the main level of the clubhouse has been completely renovated as well. The locker room facilities were expanded to include showers and access through the golf shop. The bar located in the dining room was enlarged to allow seating for up to 12 guests. The dining room facilities were enhanced to include the glass-enclosed Sunroom, which is now an extension of the dining room offering climate controlled comfort for private parties, meetings, etc. The kitchen facilities were expanded to allow for more precise, professional service to all dining guests, whether golfing, dining, or enjoying room service during their stay at the Lodge.
The golf course is undergoing a bit of a makeover, too.
“The average life expectancy of a sod-walled bunker is 5 to 10 years,” said Superintendent Paul Emling. “With close to 50 on the course, we have many that are ready for rebuilding. We have a prioritized list that will dictate the order they are rebuilt, and the project will take most of the season to complete.”
The many improvements and upgrades underway at Arcadia Bluffs are just another example of management’s commitment to providing a world-class golfing experience to their guests.
